Leader: Matt Parker
Greetings from FUEL Student Ministries! It has been a busy winter and it looks to be the same this spring. Our winter highlights include Xtreme Winter back in December and the 30-Hour Famine the last weekend in February.
The Famine had over twenty participants. The students’ night and day was packed full of prayer, devotion time and activities. The fast was all to help fight world hunger and bring everyone involved closer to God. We were forced to cut the event short due to the snowfall that weekend. All in all, it was a good time for a great cause and I believe it has changed the vision of our youth group.
Silver Dollar City Young Christians weekend was the last weekend in March. Over thirty youth and adults attended the event. Night of the Nets will be coming in May. This outreach is to help end malaria. More information will come later on this event.
The Broadway Baptist Youth Camp is scheduled for June 15-18. Expect a great time there. Six people were saved last year!
The change of vision I see is one that moves away from self-centered attitude to an others-centered one. There was a sign from the 30-Hour Famine that read “WILL LIVE FOR MORE THAN MYSELF”. We have adopted this as the new theme for our group. So expect more service-minded events and outreach from FUEL.
My question to the youth was, “You hear about mission churches and mission groups, why not have a mission youth group?” That is what we are trying to build here. We want to be the hands and feet of Christ!
Right now, we have a couple of drives going on as well. We are extending the food drive through the month of April. All items will stay right here in the community. Please bring any nonperishable food items to the youth room, the Welcome center or the church office.
We also have a shoe drive going on for the next week. Used shoes will have a two-fold purpose. Good used shoes will be given to those families that have a need for them. The used shoes that cannot be worn or have holes will be weighed and then turned into cash to purchase a well-drilling rig to dig free wells for the people of Kenya.
We are partnering with Grace Community Church in this effort. Please bring the shoes you haven’t worn in months or the ones you just haven’t thrown away yet. We can use them all! Drop them off in the youth room.
I’m excited about the way God has grown our group and blessed it tremendously. And I’m looking forward to the opportunities He gives us!
